Everything You Need To Know About The OnePlus 11

OnePlus are well known for offering phones with the specs to rival Samsung and Google while keeping the price much lower. But the days of the OnePlus as a budget alternative might be over as the price of the brand new OnePlus 11 creeps up. The key question is: is it worth it?

When you’ve made your name on undercutting your competitors with a similar quality phone, the choice is keeping that up or bringing something new to the table. The OnePlus 11 is a solid upgrade from the OnePlus 10, and is still cheaper than Samsung, Apple, although not Google. Let’s take a look at what to expect from the OnePlus 11.

Camera

This is an impressive camera for a reasonably priced phone. Cameras weren’t OnePlus’s strong point in the past, but the quality has picked up with this new model: you get a 50MP main lens, a 48MP ultrawide and a 32MP telephoto lens. All three lenses shoot clear, well-defined photos with great colours. The front facing camera is also very good, with a 14MP lens. If you want a truly great camera you’d go for the Samsung Ultra. But for the price tag on the OnePlus 11, you’re getting a great phone that offers just as much value for money.

Battery performance

For a fairly small and slim phone, it’s surprising to find the OnePlus 11 has a big 5000mAh battery under its shell. This whopping battery – the same as the Google Pixel 7 Prop – means you can crank up your usage and you’ll still end the day with a decent amount of charge left. If you’re a light to moderate user you’ll even get two days usage out of this phone – impressive for its size. The OnePlus 11 has superfast charging too, meaning it can go from 0 to 100% in just 30 minutes. In fact, the only minus point in this area is the lack of wireless charging, but that’s understandable given its price.

Design and display

As Samsung move away from their previous raised box of camera lenses design on the back of their phones, OnePlus move towards it with this ‘black hole’ design, as OnePlus have named it. It’s a new circular housing for the three lenses and flash. If you’re grieving the loss of Samsung’s old camera design, you’ll find this one a close second.

When you turn the phone over and look at the screen, which is what we’ll mostly be doing, you’ll find the 6.7inch AMOLED display is sharp and offers great resolution to its predecessor, meaning images and text are crisp and clear. Thanks to LTPO 3.0 technology, the 120Hz dynamic refresh rate can be dropped to as low as 1Hz to save battery when it’s not needed, which is great considering how useful the ‘always on’ function is on this phone.

Tech specs

The performance on this mid-range phone is perhaps the most impressive thing about it. For the price you’re getting a fast-performing phone than can handle just about anything you throw at it. It has the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which can be also found in the new Android flagship phones. That makes the OnePlus 11 very competitive. Plus there’s 256 GB storage, and 16GB RAM meaning you can have up to 44 apps running at a time. But it’s the addition of the ‘shelf’ feature that might be the most impressive thing about this phone. On your ‘shelf’ you can place your to do list, your daily steps counter, and anything else you need to see every day. It’s all easily accessible and just a swipe away.

OnePlus phones have always appealed to gamers and the OnePlus 11 is no different. The hyper boost gaming engine feature starts freeing up memory as soon as you start gaming and will keep a steady frame rate on screen.

Price and availability

You can pre-order a OnePlus 11 phone now, and it goes on general sale on 16 February. It costs £729 for 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and £799 for 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. In comparison to its competitors you’re getting a lot of phone for a keen price.
