Everything Samsung Unveiled At Their Latest Event
Samsung know how to do announcements just as well as they know how to do mobile gadgets. Rather than drip-feed launches for each of its mobile products – we’re talking everything from rings to foldable phones – they have a habit of going large and announcing everything at once. As well as creating a bigger buzz, it helps us survey the landscape and decide which are better suited for our needs.
At their recent Samsung Unpacked event, they unveiled new iterations of all their flagship smart products except for their standard-sized smartphones – so we got updates on the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch 7 and the new Galaxy Watch Ultra, plus the Galaxy Buds 3 and their Pro version. That’s quite the haul!
Here’s a closer look at what each new gadget has to offer.
Galaxy Z Fold 6
Much like the phone itself, the newest generation of Samsung’s industry-leading foldable phone is a tale of two parts. Eye up the hardware, and it looks much like the previous version, though it’s a little thinner, lighter, shorter and wider than it was before. Instead, most of the changes are found in the way it works.
It now has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that helps to power its increased AI features. For example, there’s a pretty cool sketch-to-image feature that turns S-Pen doodles into finished, slick-looking illustrations. The Interpreter app also makes full use of the main and cover displays by using the two screens to facilitate two-way translations – perfect for our hols. It’s available in black, white, grey, pink and navy, from £1,799.
Galaxy Z Flip 6
The upgrades to Samsung’s latest flip phone has plenty in common with the Galaxy Z Fold 6: it’s also got the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that enables more AI features, like smart replies that are customised to the phone’s cover screen. Happily, you’ll notice some hardware improvements too, like a 50MP camera and increased durability. At a starting price of £1,049, it’s more affordable for those looking for a foldable phone – and in our opinion, it looks niftier too.
Galaxy Ring
Ready to compete with the likes of the Oura Ring, Galaxy have entered the smart ring market. This gadget is a tracker with sensors that is easy to keep on and forget about unlike a smart watch. That’s especially the case as a full battery lasts seven days. Use it with the Samsung Health app to monitor your heart rate, skin temperature, steps, and workouts. It all feeds in to give you an AI-powered summary of your vitals. Priced from £399, the ring will be available in Titanium Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Gold.
Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra
The seventh version of the Galaxy Watch looks a lot like its predecessor, but you’ll get a faster, smarter experience using it. It’s also got a new processor (the Samsung Exynos chip) and has a new BioActive Sensor to monitor your vitals. You’ll also find gesture controls, and AI features like smarter suggested replies.
It starts at £289, but if you’re looking for something with better features, they’ve also introduced a premium version, starting at £599. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is designed for outdoor pursuits, with a bigger battery, a more durable design, an improved GPS, and new tools to help you survive in the wild. But it also has more health-tracking functions, making for a better all-round option for those who don’t mind the hefty price tag.
Galaxy Buds 3
Showing that Apple’s AirPods are the gold standard of wireless earphone design, the newest version of the Galaxy Buds have taken a more Airpod-like direction, with a little stick at the end of the bud, which allows more in the way of touch controls. The buds are available in both the standard and a Pro version. While there’s not many exclusive features that come with the Pro version, there are plenty of upgrades the existing features: the Pro offers better microphone quality, sound quality, controls, and adaptive AI, especially in its noise cancellation function. Additionally, the standard buds have five hours of playtime (and up to 30 hours with the case), while the Pro version has seven hours of playtime (and also up to 30 hours with the case).
