Greece Travel Essentials

Here are a few things worth noting before you travel to Greece.

Declare any pre-existing medical conditions

Before you buy your Greece travel insurance, make sure to tell us about any pre-existing medical conditions you may have. This helps us make sure you have the right cover in place for your holiday.

If a medical condition isn't declared, and you later need to make a claim, it could affect how your claim is assessed. Take a few minutes to check your answers carefully before you complete your purchase.

Don’t forget to pack your Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) before you travel to Greece. It gives UK travellers access to state healthcare on the same basis as Greek residents, although you may still need to pay for some treatment.

Your GHIC is useful, but isn’t a replacement for travel insurance. It doesn’t cover things like emergency medical repatriation, cancellation or lost baggage. That’s why it’s important to travel with the right insurance policy in place.

Before travelling to Greece, make sure your passport meets the latest entry requirements. It must be less than 10 years old on the day you enter Greece and valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave.

If your passport is lost or stolen during your holiday, report it to the local police as soon as possible. You can then apply for an Emergency Travel Document to help you continue your journey or return to the UK.

If you're travelling to Greece from the UK, you may need to complete extra checks when you arrive. Under the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), first-time visitors to the Schengen Area will usually have a photo taken and fingerprints scanned. This is instead of receiving a passport stamp.

These extra checks can take longer during busy travel periods, particularly at popular Greek airports and ferry ports. Arriving a little earlier and following instructions from border staff can help your journey run more smoothly.
